while summer is approaching and the days are getting longer and warmer and sessions are picking back up again…I can’t help but think about WHY we take family portraits. There are simple answers….I want to capture my kids, to preserve memories, to decorate my walls…the list could go on. But this is a big question and something to consider when planing your session. Your answers should guide us in deciding a location for the shoot, clothing, and focus. BASICALLY EVERYTHING. To be honest, my why changes all the time. I always want to capture memories but sometimes I just need a picture for a Christmas card. Simple. I for sure want an image that captures us and all the big personalities in our fam 😉 but for this I am not looking to capture moments that remind me of my kids childhood. When I am looking to capture and preserve memories of my kids childhood I want my session here at my home doing the things we love to do together….playing soccer, riding bikes, swinging in the hammock, roasting marshmallows, swimming). More of a documentary session. Which I personally feel everyone should do at least once in their lifetime (just throwing that out there lol). There are also times I want to capture my family interacting and playing in some sort of beautiful scenery ( I am a dreamer and have cheesy visions of us in beautiful places…I am not the only one..right?!) We can still be ourselves and have fun, but our location may not be our home. I may dress up a touch more…who knows. But you get the idea. When you book a session think about your why. These are your images. Your memories. Your treasures. Your stories to tell. Imagine them on your walls telling the story of your people for years to come.
